Brexit three phase strategy

The UK left the EU on 31st January 2020 but remains in the single market and customs union until 31st December 2020 while the two sides try to “hammer out” a trade agreement.

When this transition period ends on 31st December 2020, the existing EU trade rules will no longer apply to Great Britain and new trade rules including customs formalities will be introduced.

The UK Government have indicated that these new rules will be introduced gradually in a “Three phase strategy”, which is a plan for the first six months of 2021 - see below for more information.

DSV will continue with our BREXIT preparations and we will make sure we are ready. Experience tells us that the BREXIT outcome could change again as negotiations continue between UK & EU over the coming months. We will keep monitoring the situation closely and make sure we are informed and ready.

As a UK Trader, if you either export into the EU or you purchase and therefore import from the EU you will now need to prepare, appoint and instruct a UK operator/agent to act as your representative to produce either or both export and import customs declarations supporting the movements of good in and out of the UK into/from the EU from the 1st January 2021.

Both import and export declarations are required as from the 1st January 2021. You need to be fully prepared and DSV are here to help.

We require written instruction from you requesting DSV to act as your representative which will give us the authority to complete declarations on your behalf.  We are here to ensure we provide a solution, as your principle carrier, we will complete and ensure declarations are made in time, thus eliminating any unnecessary delays to the movement of your goods and you remain totally complaint with any export or import customs border declarations.

To ease the process, we have created a direct representative form via the link below in order to allow us to proceed without delay when customs requirements are enforced.

Simply return the completed form to your usual contact or send to customs@uk.dsv.com, should you require to discuss this further, we will quickly identify your needs and consider the right solution for your requirements.

Goods cannot cross borders without being accompanied by the correct information, which is listed on the word file, the document can be downloaded and used on all future shipments.

In addition to the existing customs department in Dover, we have opened two new customs departments in Purfleet and Harwich, to provide you with the necessary support throughout the entire customs process.  Our customer service teams all participate in ongoing training, to fully understand the procedures and requirements. DSV are dedicated to make the import and export of your goods run smoothly, by facilitating the clearance of goods through the required customs processes, DSV are here with you each step of the way.
